MUCAIN and "El Real de a Ocho"

Madrid 2025 is establishing itself as a key meeting point for numismatists from Spain and around the world. Dealers, collectors, institutions, and scholars — hailing from Europe, the United States, and Latin America — will gather in the Spanish capital to share experiences with their Spanish counterparts. At the same time, Spanish professionals and enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to engage with top-tier international dealers without having to leave the country.

Ricardo A. Fernández, founding member of the Asociación Museo de la Carrera de Indias, answered the call of the Royal Mint of Spain (FNMT) to deliver a masterful lecture on the impact of the Spanish dollar on history.

Madrid hosts Spain’s largest numismatic convention: an event set to mark a turning point.

On Friday 28 March, Madrid became the epicentre of numismatics with the staging of Spain’s largest and most significant specialised convention. With 70 confirmed exhibitors, the event is set to become an unmissable date for collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts of coin history. The convention is organised by the official distributors of the Royal Mint of Spain (FNMT): Julián Llorente, Lamas Bolaño, and Edifil. It is expected to be the first of many such events, marking a turning point for numismatic gatherings in Spain.

The convention was held at the Truss Hall of the Community of Madrid Sports Palace (Movistar Arena, formerly Wizink Center).

Featured Talks

The event featured two highly engaging talks for attendees:

10:30 am: The Chief Engraver of the Royal Mint, Alfonso Morales, spoke on “The Coin: The Creative Process”, for approximately 30 minutes.
4:30 pm: Ricardo Fernández, Director of the Museo de la Carrera de Indias, gave a talk entitled “The Spanish Dollar: The Coin that Conquered the World”, lasting around 45 minutes.

An event that will go down in numismatic history

The 2025 Madrid Numismatic Convention is not only the largest and most significant of its kind in Spain — it arrives with the ambition of becoming an essential annual event for the sector on an international scale. During a full day of activity, attendees were able to discover unique pieces, attend lectures by renowned experts, and acquire coins of great historical and economic value.

From passionate collectors to top-level dealers, all found in this event an exceptional opportunity to connect, learn, and expand their collections.

Organised by three official distributors of the Royal Mint of Spain (FNMT) — Julián Llorente, Lamas Bolaño, and Edifil — the convention also enjoys the sponsorship of Jesús Vico, Tauler & Fau, Numismática Barcala, José Manuel Olivares, Finumas, and Subastas Cayón. Among these, special mention must be made of Jesús Vico, whose support in organising the convention over recent months has been instrumental.

This convention brings together Spanish companies specialising in both new numismatic issues and historical coinage. Attendees reflect the same diversity: around 40 national firms had already confirmed their attendance for the event on 28 March in Madrid, and organisers expect between 50 and 60 tables in total.

The Royal Mint of Spain (FNMT) played a key role in the convention, launching a special limited edition that delighted collectors. For the occasion, the FNMT designed an exclusive blister pack containing a 2-euro coin, available only during the event.

Only 500 pieces were minted, and they quickly sold out. However, to ensure fair access, sales were staggered throughout the day, with a limited number released every hour. Furthermore, the number of units per person was restricted, ensuring that as many attendees as possible could obtain this sought-after piece.

A unique opportunity to take home an unrepeatable numismatic gem.
