The Carrera de Indias: A Bridge Between Cultures

Santa Pola

I International Congress of Hispanidad. Santa Pola. 6-8 October 2022

In this first edition of the International Congress of Hispanidad, held in the town of Santa Pola (Alicante) from 6th to 8th October 2022, MUCAIN participated with the itinerant exhibition “The Carrera de Indias: A Bridge Between Cultures.”

The exhibition, set up at the Santa Pola Nautical Club, featured several items created to bring that treasure guarded by MUCAIN to all cardinal points. It included pyrography on fine wood, canvas paintings, and more—all set in the majestic wooden galleons that crossed the oceans, driven by the winds and sails.

Madrid

Segovian Centre in Madrid

MUCAIN’s itinerant exhibition travels to the capital, organizing a traditional cocido madrileño for the members of this social centre, the home of all Segovians living in Madrid.

The exhibition’s opening included a brief conference by Ricardo Fernández, director of the museum, where he presented the milestones achieved so far and the future plans for this project. With the presence of friends, members, and invited guests, the exhibition was officially opened, followed by a communal meal featuring the traditional cocido madrileño.

Segovia

The Alhóndiga

In December 2023, to close out the year, the exhibition stayed at home. The Alhóndiga, a building that has stored grain for Segovians for over 500 years, hosted this exhibition. In addition to the pyrography and elements related to the Carrera de Indias, replicas of 16th-century Spanish attire, courtesy of Celia Alegre, were also displayed.

A large 3 x 2.80-meter screen with cinema-style seating showcased audiovisual content about the Carrera de Indias, offering entertainment to visitors.

In addition to the exhibition, a series of conferences were held throughout December, featuring prominent collaborators of MUCAIN.

Sevilla

Provincial Historical Archive of Seville

Throughout the entire month of February 2024, to start the year off right, the exhibition traveled to the heart of the enterprise known as the Carrera de Indias, the city of Seville.

The Provincial Historical Archive of Seville took charge of organizing this exhibition, featuring most of the available elements and an extra addition—content from the Archive itself, which was displayed for the enjoyment of visitors. These included books and letters from the era, carefully preserved in excellent condition.
